Do you want your family to live in a community that is clean, safe, healthy and prosperous? Is it important to you that your business and your family thrive in the community you have chosen to live in? How can we make this happen?

Live Thrive started as a blog with a mission to share ideas about ways we could make our communities healthier, not only today, but in the future as well. The response was overwhelming; individuals, communities and local businesses (big and small) responded with great ideas. We discovered that there were pockets of concerned citizens doing their part, but overall there was a lack of environmental AWARENESS and INVOLVEMENT. For example, people weren’t sure what “sustainability” was all about. Why is it important to recycle? Why is it important to buy locally grown foods? Why conserve water?

We knew the first step for Live Thrive was to get involved with the community. Our first effort was organizing an event that allowed the community to drop off recyclable items that couldn’t be left at their curb-sides. This led to more questions; what about the hazardous waste that’s more difficult to recycle? The left over paint, pesticides, chemicals, batteries, light bulbs and expired medicines? We decided to prove that is was possible to collect all this waste and dispose or recycle it responsibly.  One year later, after working closely with community leaders and local council members, we organized the city of Atlanta’s first ever household hazardous waste collection event, and it was a huge success.

How do we teach our children to conserve and preserve? Simple answer, start early and lead by example! Live Thrive is working to bring environmental education to our schools at all levels. We believe that kids play a big part in making our communities a better place to LIVE and THRIVE.
